Students on both had the opportunity to hear from Gaelin Rosenwaks, an accomplished marine scientist, world explorer, photographer, and filmmaker who also calls Montauk home. She inspired students with stories and images from her research on whales, sharks, ice cores, and the sea floor around the world.

Gaelin  Rosenwaks is also the author of the recently published book Sperm Whales: The Gentle Goliaths of the Ocean, a beautifully stirring story with never-before-seen photographs of the world’s most marvelous ocean species, many of which she shared with students.

Rosenwaks began her career at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, conducting research in Antarctica, then earned her Master’s Degree in Coastal Environmental Management from Duke University, researching Giant Bluefin Tuna. Alarmed by the changes happening in the oceans, she founded Global Ocean Exploration Inc. to share her passion for ocean exploration, marine conservation, and storytelling. Rosenwaks now participates and conducts expeditions in every ocean to alert the public not only to the  challenges facing the oceans but to what science is doing to understand these changes. Visit her website to learn more about her current projects and initiatives.
