Ross Alumni Join Ross School's Board of Trustees
Ross School's Board of trustees continues to grow, evolve, and mature along with the school itself and we're proud to welcome two new members to its ranks. Martial Toussaint and Alexandra Fairweather both bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles, as well as an in-depth understanding of Ross School itself. Both trustees are alumni of Ross School: Martial graduated in 2001 and Alexandra in 2008.
Martial Toussaint, a member of Ross School's first graduating class, received his undergraduate degree from Brown University. Martial has distinguished himself as an educator in NYC, including serving as Dean of Students at Ross Global Academy. He is currently a senior administrator, Head of Youth Development and School Culture, at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School.
When asked about what his goals as a trustee were, Martial had this to say:
"I came to Ross as a 10th grader back in 1998 and that decision has had a profound impact on the trajectory of my life. Having seen and worked in many schools since then, it still strikes me how unique Ross is as an institution. So many lives could also benefit from a progressive and nurturing environment such as Ross. As a trustee of the Board, I hope to help strengthen the foundation of the Ross School so that we can continue to provide a distinct experience to a diverse community of learners."
Alexandra Fairweather graduated from Columbia College, Columbia University, was the director of a leading art gallery, directed and produced films, and launched two startups. She's currently the director of the John Chamberlain Estate, overseeing exhibitions, special projects, and publications. She also leads strategy for an NYC private equity firm.
When asked about what she hopes to accomplish in her new role at Ross, she said:
"If I had to point to one aspect of my upbringing that has determined my success today (both personally and professionally), I would undoubtedly point to my education at Ross. With this in mind, I am delighted to serve on the Board, focusing on the Alumni Committee and Advancement Committee. My primary objective is to create an engaged alumni community through innovative programming - I would like Ross to become a place to network, reconnect with old friends, and engage in lifelong learning. Secondly, to build a sustainable financial future for the school for generations to come, I feel strongly that we need to create an endowment for the school that is invested conservatively and prudently."
Martial and Alexandra's entrance coincides with the departure of one of the Board's most consequential members, Barrie Glabman. The contributions Barrie's made to Ross School throughout its history, as a parent, in the classroom, volunteering at events, and serving on committees and the Executive Parents Association Board, are immeasurable. She has been a dedicated member of the Ross Board of Trustees since 2013. She will be sorely missed but will, of course, remain part of the Ross family.
Martial and Alexandra, who round out a group that comprises diverse skills and professions, join at a time when Ross School's Board of Trustees enters a new phase of development. Miree Kim, a Ross parent who became a trustee last year, stated that the Board plans on "strategically positioning the school for the next phase of growth and challenges, and in doing so, strengthen our commitment to the core values and the type of education that is unique to Ross."
